Volunteer Descriptions

SLHE is completely volunteer led. Therefore, the Board of Directors is deeply appreciative of the time and effort our volunteers devote to this group. The following are descriptions of the areas that you may enjoy participating in:

  • Community Service- SLHE is always looking for ways to give back. Our teens especially seek out service opportunities to enrich their lives and meet requirements for the Bright Futures scholarships offered by the state. Do you have an idea of how we can contribute to our community?

  • Curriculum Fair- SLHE hosts an annual curriculum sale so that members may buy and sell from within our own community. The coordinator for this sale will assist in choosing a date that works best for members, communicating the sale to members, and assisting with set up/take down.

  • Dances- SLHE hosts several dances including a prom throughout the year. We need volunteers willing to help decorate and/or chaperone.

  • Drama Club- SLHE's Drama Club is always seeking families who have a heart for theater. Even if you have no theater experience, but you're willing to jump in and help, we would love to have you join us!

  • Enrichments-
    • SLHE Expo- This is our one day a year we get to show off all the talent in SLHE! Classes may participate by submitting their work, individuals may participate by showcasing their talents, etc..The coordinator for this event will secure the venue, collaborate with the board member about date/time and set up. If you'd like to oversee making this event happen, please sign up!
    • International Day- Pick your favorite country, their most popular dishes, and share what you've learned! If you'd like to set up this event, it typically happens in late spring. You will find and reserve the venue, communicate with participants.

  • Family Events- SLHE hosts several parties and potlucks throughout the year. These events include a Christmas celebration, Easter egg hunt, and more. Do you know the perfect place, time, or event to celebrate?

  • Field Trip Committee- Living in Central Florida, it's hard to run out of places to visit. Many educational and fun locations offer group discounts. Would you consider organizing a field trip for our group?

  • Mom's Night Out- Moms need a night out every once in a while! Would you consider putting together a Mom's Night Out? Find the restaurant, venue, or activity, and let's have some fun!

  • Promotion Night Committee- One of the most exciting events of the year! Students are promoted to their next grades and graduates are celebrated! Volunteers help decorate, set up, and clean up.

  • Park Day Coordinator- This member helps set up park days for our group by choosing the park, date/time, and communicates these special days to our group.

  • Sunshine Committee Help us honor the families of SLHE; we like to bless a new birth or adoption with a meal train or gift card, send a get well card to those who are ill, or put together a meal for those who are bereaved.

  • Teacher Appreciation- Our co-op teachers are very special to our member families. Would you consider helping generate ideas and possibly setting up events for our teachers?

  • Teen Group- Why should the little kids have all the fun? Would you consider putting together an event for our teens? In the past, we have had people open their homes for game nights, movie nights, or organize events such as laser tag and escape rooms. The teens are always happy to get to hang out with one another. No event is too big or too small!

  • Testing- Each year SLHE offers standardized testing to its members. We are seeking individuals who can proctor the tests for various grade levels. If you hold at least a Bachelor's degree in any field, you qualify to be a proctor.

  • Welcome Committee- Our support group is growing! We want to make sure every member of SLHE feels welcomed, no matter their level of involvement. Please consider working with the welcome committee to help new members feel part of our SLHE family. It's important they understand how to use the forums, calendar, event sign ups, and more.

  • Yearbook Club- Each year SLHE publishes a yearbook for its members to purchase. Do you enjoy photography or editing? Do you have a skill or background in graphic design? Do you have a heart for leadership? We need your talents and skills to lead our teen yearbook staff!
